Economic Update 2021: What is New?

Basu, who is chairman and CEO of Sage Policy Group, Inc., an economic and policy consulting firm in Baltimore, will discuss several areas of focus: labor markets; financial markets; real estate; construction; consumer spending; business investment; international trade; and government finances.

“The presentation will focus on the capacity of the local, national, and global economies to quickly recover from the devastation wrought by COVID-19,” said Basu. “The key takeaways for the audience will be that the crisis produced big winners and losers in terms of household wealth, industries, and asset prices. Another takeaway will be that there is evidence suggesting that Carroll County’s economy is especially diverse and resilient. Finally, people will learn about massive migration from urban areas towards suburbs.”

“Anirban is a gem! He is brilliant and funny, at the same time. And anyone who can make a presentation about the economy be full of wit and enjoyable is completely worth watching,” said Chamber President and CEO Mike McMullin.
